Active Matter Weapon Tier List
Class-by-class ranks for the current raid meta, not a forever ranking.
This page ranks Active Matter firearms as they play in live raids, not as a collector’s checklist. Matter Team keeps adding receivers, optics, and Harmonization-gated guns, so an S-tier last patch can be an A-tier after a recoil pass. Use these tables with the Weapons Hub and the kit recipes on loadouts. Plates and sleeves on armor decide whether you survive the first peek long enough for the rank to matter.
How to read a rank. S wins its job in most queues. A is a specialist or a close second. B is honest Isolated gear. C is a backup, a rental filler, or a chronotraces dump. We score recoil, ammo economy, and raid role harder than brochure damage. A hungry 1,200 RPM SMG that empties your 9×19 stash in one Park nest is not S-tier even if the TTK clip looks pretty.
Harmonization Cycle 2 still gates SCAR-H, MAC-11, RSh-12, M39 EMR, and DP-12. Those guns are ranked as a ceiling. If your Shelter has not paid them out, ignore the S/A cell and run the live alternative in the same row. Patch 0.4.0.62 stopped red-dot sights from slowing ADS, which lifted every EXPS3 / collimator build that used to feel sticky. Variable-magnification optics, PSO 4×, TA31, 1P69 1–10×, thermal S350F, AN-PEQ-15-class lasers, suppressors, foregrips, and dovetail-to-Picatinny adapters can move a gun one half-step without changing the base rank of the platform.
Assault rifles
| Tier | Gun | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| S | M4A1 | Attachment ceiling, common 5.56, controllable full auto in Open and Downtown. |
| S | AEK-971 | 900 RPM, naturally low recoil, burst option. Optics rail only — no stock or suppressor — so it wins on discipline, not stealth. |
| A | SCAR-L | Suppressor-friendly 5.56 workhorse. Slightly less snap than the M4A1, better hush than SCAR-H. |
| A | AN-94 | Two-round hyper-burst for helmets and titan plates. Punishing if you spray it like an AEK. |
| A | SCAR-H | Harmonization 7.62×51 punch, slower cyclic, no suppressor. Open PvP closer, Isolated overkill. |
| B | M14 | 20-round 7.62 that can full-auto a hallway or semi a lane. Mag size and recoil keep it off S. |
| C | SOK-94 Vepr | Cheap Soviet volume. Heavy recoil, fewer rails. Fine for Isolated Headquarters trash, poor for Downtown peeks. |
Bring an S-tier AR when the raid is Open or you expect SWAT-density fights on Downtown. On Isolated Dalniy Island a B-tier Vepr plus ceramic plates still clears Turned Soldiers if you do not waste ammo on Flowermen that want fire instead.
SMGs
| Tier | Gun | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| S | Scorpion EVO 3 | Controllable CQB king. Ammo is common, recoil is honest, interiors on Downtown and Headquarters favor it. |
| S | PP-2000 | Picatinny for real optics, 44-round mags in raid. The gun you steal off a body and keep. |
| A | Gepard | 40-round stick, frequent on Turned Soldiers. Less rail flexibility than PP-2000, still a monster in hallways. |
| A | MP5 / UMP45 | Reliable Western CQB. UMP hits harder per shot; MP5 is easier on 9×19 economy. |
| B | PP-19-01 | Solid Soviet SMG that loses attachment fights to PP-2000. |
| C | MAC-11 | Harmonization, up to 1,200 RPM. Vicious in a closet, bankrupt in a two-minute nest. |
SMGs are map weapons. They are S-tier inside hangars, barracks, and skyscraper stairwells. They are B-tier on Dam catwalks and Park sightlines. Pair them with a DMR in the backpack if the raid type is Open and the circle will force long peeks.
DMRs and sniper rifles
| Tier | Gun | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| S | SVDM | Modernized Dragunov: tighter groups, less recoil, folding bipod. The default marksman rifle on Dalniy. |
| S | M110A1 | Western DMR with a real suppressor path. Open PvP pick when you can afford the ammo. |
| A | M39 EMR | Harmonization M14 cousin, lower recoil, long Picatinny for up to five attachments. |
| A | VSSK Vykhlop | Integral suppressor, ASh-12 subsonic punch, bolt-action follow-up. Quiet, slow, hungry for rare ammo. |
| A | M24 | Bolt gun with a stock bipod. Buyable after its Investigation. Honest mid-long pick. |
| B | SV-98 | Classic bolt with PSO glass. Still lethal, outclassed by SVDM once you have the recipe. |
| C | M82A1 | Anti-materiel. Investigation/replication lock, huge, overkill versus PvE. Bring it for vehicles and chad peeks, not for Park. |
A DMR is a role, not a personality. If you cannot hear footsteps because you skipped Active Headsets, the SVDM will not save you. Read how to extract so you stop aiming at a 200-meter silhouette while the portal ticks down.
Shotguns
| Tier | Gun | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| S | Origin-12 | Magazine-fed. Reloads in a fight instead of thumbing shells while a Distorted phases in. |
| S | DP-12 | Harmonization double-tube. High burst, slower to top off than a mag gun. |
| A | SPAS-12 | Semi or pump depending on the room. Forgiving Isolated closer. |
| B | MB590 | Early unlock, honest pump. Fine until Origin-12 recipes land. |
Shotguns punish Flowermen only if you already have fire or a teammate kiting. Do not treat an Origin-12 as a Park solo plan; bring a flamethrower or incendiaries from the special table and save the mag shotgun for SWAT hallways.
Light machine guns
| Tier | Gun | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| S | PKM | Soviet belt, suppression, common ammo on Dalniy military POIs. |
| A | M249 Para | Western belt from Fire Walk. Better when you are already looting Downtown NATO crates. |
| B | EV-MG | Long Picatinny, heavier handling. A support gun, not a run-and-gun primary. |
LMGs win when a squad holds a hangar or an Unstable Zone rotate. They lose when you have to climb Shegolskoe floating houses with a 200-round brick. If you are solo Isolated, take an AR.
Handguns
| Tier | Gun | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| S | RSh-12 | Harmonization revolver. Stops a helmet peek that 9×19 bounces off. Ammo is not free. |
| A | Stechkin | Machine-pistol burst for the operator who already emptied a Gepard. |
| A | M9 Tactical | Suppressor slot. The stealth sidearm that matches a SCAR-L kit. |
| B | M45A1 / P17-V / MP-443 | Honest backups. P17-V is the easy live unlock; M45A1 is the Western heavy. |
| C | M9 | Starter. Fine on rental kits, not worth a chad pouch slot. |
Sidearms exist so you can reload a primary in a stairwell. If your pistol shares ammo with the SMG, that is an A-tier system even if the pistol cell is B.
Special weapons and melee
| Tier | Gun | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| S | Gravity gun | Fires a tunnel from muzzle to impact. Skips fall damage and Gigastructure death pits. Cannot extract intact — use it, do not bank it. |
| A | RPG-7 | Vehicles, clusters, stubborn chokepoints. One rocket is a raid plan, five rockets is a backpack tax. |
| A | Flamethrower | Park, Overgrowth, Flowermen, Dendroids. Mandatory on those modifiers, dead weight on Downtown avenues. |
| B | Hunting crossbow | Quiet, slow, scarce bolts. Isolated stealth, not Open PvP. |
| C+ | Melee | Combat knife, war hammer, crowbar, pry bar, baseball bat, police flashlight, Bouncer knuckles, Woodcutter’s Argument hatchet. These open crates, save ammo on downed PvE, and lose to any loaded pistol. |
Attachments that actually move rank
A PSO 4× on an SV-98 is the Isolated marksman kit. TA31 or 1P69 on an M4A1 is the Open peek kit. Thermal S350F is a Distortion / night-aurora tool, not a default. Lasers help hip-fire and announce you in the dark — controls should bind a laser toggle you will actually use. Suppressors are an Open PvP tax worth paying on SCAR-L and M110A1; they are unavailable on SCAR-H, which is why that Harmonization rifle is A instead of S for stealth squads. Foregrips and dovetail adapters are how Soviet guns join Western optic ecosystems. After 0.4.0.62, a red dot is no longer a mobility penalty. If your kit still uses iron sights “to ADS faster,” rebuild it.
Raid-role cheat sheet
- Isolated PvE: AEK-971 or M4A1, MB590 until Origin-12, cheap ceramics, flamethrower on Park. See loadouts.
- Open PvPvE: Suppressed SCAR-L or M4A1, SVDM or M110A1 in the bag, titan if you can afford the move penalty trade.
- Downtown: Scorpion / PP-2000 plus an AR. Police and SWAT do not care about your 10×.
- Gigastructure: Gravity gun if you find one, compact AR, no LMG.
- Nexus: Spray-friendly ARs and LMGs; read Nexus Battles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is S-tier in Active Matter right now?
For rifles, M4A1 and AEK-971. For SMGs, Scorpion EVO 3 and PP-2000. For marksman work, SVDM and M110A1. For shotguns, Origin-12. Harmonization guns can sit beside those once they unlock.
Which guns are locked behind Harmonization?
SCAR-H, MAC-11, RSh-12, M39 EMR, and DP-12 are the named Harmonization firearms on this page. Rank your live replicator first; treat those five as a later ceiling.
Did red dots still slow ADS?
No. Patch 0.4.0.62 removed that penalty. Collimators such as EXPS3 are default close-range glass again. Variable-magnification optics stay a long-range tax.
Should I extract a Gravity gun?
You cannot bring it home in one piece. Use it to tunnel across Gigastructure or skip fall damage, then extract the loot it helped you grab.
Is the MAC-11 bad because it is C-tier?
It is C because 1,200 RPM eats 9×19 and Harmonization gates it. In a single Downtown closet it still deletes a squad. Do not build a whole Isolated economy around it.
